Deborah Toffolo and Sharee Lussick are co-directors
of ACCESS Brain Injury Services. ACCESS is the culmination of their extensive
experience in clinical practice, research and project management. ACCESS
can provide the multi-disciplinary skills required for a comprehensive
program or project. Our staff include experienced professionals in
Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Rehabilitation Counselling, Social
Work & Speech Pathology.
Deborah Toffolo graduated from Sydney University
in 1985 with a Bachelor of Applied Science (Speech Pathology). She has
worked in the brain injury field throughout her career in both hospital
and community-based settings. Her positions have included speech pathologist,
Hurstville Acquired Brain Impairment Team, Commonwealth Rehabilitation
Service; Clinical Educator, St Vincent's Hospital; and Research Officer
at Balmain Hospital. She has skills in assessment and treatment of cognitive
communication disorders, memory retraining, vocational rehabilitation,
case management, research, publication and professional education.
Deborah's innovative approach has led to the development
a range of resources and programs for client's with acquired brain injury
including the "Memory Group Program" (CRS, 1990), a video "Helping
People With Memory Problems" and national training workshops on this
topic. She co-authored the "Diary and Organisation Group Program" (CRS
1993) designed for clients with moderate to severe memory disorders. She
has developed educational programs for clients and their families as well
as professionals working in the field. Deborah's involvement in the field
is reflected by a broad range of presentations at professional conferences
including the Australian Association of Speech and Hearing National Conferences
(1988, 1991, 1994, 1995), CRS National Rehabilitation Conferences (1992,
1993), the Australian Society for Rehabilitation Counsellors Conference
(1992), the Australian Society for the Study of Brain Impairment Annual
Conference (1989) and the Recovery from Brain Injury National Conference
(1989). She is a member of the Australian Association of Speech and Hearing
and the Australian Society for the Study of Brain Impairment. In 1998,
Deborah completed a Research Masters Degree at the University of Sydney
in Communication Sciences and Disorders.
Sharee Lussick graduated from the University of Sydney
with a Bachelor of Social Work in 1988 and a Master of Social Work in 1993.
Through positions at Hurstville Acquired Brain Injury Team, Commonwealth
Rehabilitation Service as well as community agencies, support groups and
within the hospital setting, she has developed expertise in the field of
acquired brain injury. Sharee has recognised skills in psychosocial assessment,
counselling of people with brain injury and their families, case management
and vocational rehabilitation after brain injury. She has been responsible
for the development and facilitation of educational and therapeutic group
programs on topics including stress management, rights and advocacy skills
and self-esteem. Sharee co-authored the Anger Management Manual
(CRS 1995) designed for people with mild to moderate anger management problems
following brain injury. She maintains a keen interest in this area and
it remains the focus of much of her counselling work. Sharee also conducted
General Awareness of Brain Injury training sessions for the Brain Injury
Association of NSW and is a member of the Australian Association of Social
Workers.
