This specialist focus enables us to provide services that are informed and authoritative.
ACCESS provides experienced case management to ensure a coordinated approach to rehabilitation. Using
our thorough knowledge of the rehabilitation system we offer informed and effective liaison
between the client, fund managers, service providers, medical and treating staff.
Our case managers are appreciative of the need to be accessible and goal-oriented.
Case management services can be provided as required, at any or all stages of a client's program.
ACCESS can provide a full range of specialist clinical services. These
include cognitive assessment and retraining, assessment and treatment of communication
disorders, psychosocial assessment and counselling for the client and their family,
behavioural management programs, vocational counselling, functional assessment, driver
retraining, physiotherapy and independent living programs. Intervention can take place whether
the client is an inpatient or ready for community resettlement.
ACCESS have particular expertise in the field of vocational rehabilitation. Many
factors contribute to difficulty in
returning to work following a brain injury. It is crucial to address the complex interaction
between a person's
level of skill, their work competencies and their expectations about employment. From
specialised vocational
assessment, work-based training and monitoring, employer liaison, to knowledge of labour-market
programs,
we offer informed and result-oriented vocational programs.
ACCESS offers periodic support and advice to individuals and families. Clients who have
completed their
rehabilitation may find that an opportunity to revise and renew the strategies they have
learned can help to
maintain their progress. Events such as changes in inter-personal
relationships, restructuring in the workplace, loss of employment or moving to a new
community can be more
difficult given the nature of brain injury. Managing change can present a considerable
challenge to an
individual's ability to cope. In these circumstances, specific intervention at a critical
time can be cost-effective
and productive. ACCESS staff have particular expertise in group programs specifically tailored
for people with a brain injury and their families. Many clients benefit from the mutual
support gained by sharing
their experiences. A group forum can help to overcome feelings of isolation and provide
opportunities for
interactive problem solving. Memory retraining, anger management, diary and organisation
skills,
communication skills, stress management and vocational preparation courses can be offered as
group
programs.
ACCESS provides specialised training programs to assist various industries to
meet specific
service objectives. We can provide training manuals and workshops tailored to meet the needs
of your
organisation. Modules include, introduction to brain injury, effective case management skills,
managing
challenging behaviours, brain injury awareness, training for volunteers and communicating with
people who
have a brain injury. Alternatively, existing training packages can be adapted to include brain
injury education
modules. ACCESS can be commissioned to provide consultancy services to complement your
organisation's existing resources. Projects may involve qualitative or quantitative research,
needs analysis and
service planning & development. Reports prepared by ACCESS reflect our systematic and
comprehensive
approach.
